The Underworld is where every spirit drifts after life’s end — a patchwork realm of ghostly towns, glowing swamps, and curious crossroads where the ordinary mingles with the otherworldly. It’s not all gloom and shadows; for many, it’s simply home, a place where souls gather, linger, and find new routines in the afterlife. Whimsical, strange, and full of secrets, the Underworld is as lively as it is haunted.
Out of the hundreds of floating islands within the Underworld, Undead Mailman: The Soul Courier takes place on the massive Soulspire Isle — a colossal island divided into five major regions. Briefly, they are:
At the heart of Soulspire Isle lies the Crossroads, home to Mort’s Mail Shop. This bustling hub connects all major regions of the island, serving as a meeting place where spirits from every corner gather, mingle, and share stories. It’s the pinnacle of interconnectedness and the pulse of daily life on Soulspire.
Known simply as “the Swamp,” this dense, shadowy forest is home to Royal Ghost Gunther. Once a protector of its residents, Gunther has withdrawn from the world, leaving GloomWood Manor in isolation. Little light pierces the thick canopy, making it the darkest corner of Soulspire. It’s also the nesting ground for the low-level demon troupe, The Banditz, who harass any spirits attempting to visit.
The Spiritual Observatory
Rising high into the skies to the right of the Crossroads, the Spiritual Observatory houses hundreds of scholarly spirits studying the mysteries of the Underworld. Recently, they have focused on a strange red star that appeared in the ether. Nebiru, the curious and rebellious Royal Ghost, has become obsessed with its origins.
The Well / Neo-Ghoul City
A towering, enigmatic structure, The Well is one of Soulspire’s most mysterious locales. At night, flashes of light emerge from its depths. Few spirits can scale its massive walls, but those who do encounter Nordama, the fun-loving and energetic Royal Ghost. Life here is relentless — the city never sleeps, the party never ends, and personal space is nonexistent.
A magnificent golden tower visible from the Crossroads, the False Heaven was once a sanctuary for spirits seeking enlightenment. SamSara, a tall and silent Royal Ghost, guided spirits toward peace and spiritual growth. Recently, however, the tower has closed its doors, and the fate of those inside remains unknown.
